Home Economics Support Service

Welcome to the Home Economics webpage.

Thank you for completing our Home Economics Support Teacher Feedback Survey in April 2011. A summary report is available herePDF File

New Service Provision for Teachers

The Second Level Support Service (SLSS) extend its gratitude to all of you that supported the work of the service throughout the years since its establishment in 2001. A new cross - sectoral service, the Professional Development Service for Teachers  (PDST) was established in September 2010. The PDST subsumed much of the work of the SLSS.

The PDST is happy to inform you that the resources, materials and functionalities of this website will continue to be available to you in the future. It is our intention to provide continuing professional development opportunities for teachers of Home Economics. We are currently working with enthusiastic colleagues who are developing exemplar teaching and learning resource materials. We have organised resource meetings in February and March where resources will be shared and the exemplar materials disseminated and invite teachers to attend – we will soon be putting dates and venues onto the website.

With your support we aim to identify, disseminate and share good teaching and learning strategies which will enhance the classroom experience for you and your students.
To ensure that you are notified about all relevant courses email your school name, school roll number, your email and mobile details to homeeconomics@pdst.ie (if in doubt register again using the link on the homepage).

If you are an experienced teacher who is passionate about your subject and wish to work with like minded colleagues I invite you to apply to become a local facilitator.
Local Facilitators are teachers who are willing to volunteer to contribute to CPD in their subject or programme areas or other areas where they have expertise and a willingness to contribute. If you wish to become a Local Facilitator in Home Economics, please email timregan@pdst.ie

I urge all teachers to regularly use the website forum and share ideas and thoughts with each other. Exchanging ideas and sharing good practice reaffirms our work as professionals.

This website will be continually updated and contain details of upcoming support courses and evaluated classroom resources. If you use active teaching and learning strategies or have generated a classroom resource which you wish to share with colleagues, please contact cathann@eircom.net .

PDST Home Ec Support Programme will be posted here by the end of January 2012

Home Economics as Gaeilge

This is a national course for teachers who teach Home Economics through the medium of Irish. It will explore common issues that are particular to these teachers and agree on strategies such as a community of practice where support resources and other issues may be shared.
